Summer is my favorite season. Sundresses, skirts and crop tops, sandals, shorts, and floppy hats, there is something so effortless and fun about dressing for warm weather. This year I’m facing an obsticle that I was slightly less prepared for than I thought. Rather than shaming myself for my postpartum body, until I can start training again for my next half marathon, I have fully embraced my fuller shape.
It’s incredible the way the opinion of your body changes after you grow and give birth to a baby. Women are capable of so much, and I’ve never felt more beautiful.
Dressing myself the past few weeks on the rare occasion I’ve been out has been more challenging. I’m always up for a challenge and dressing and figuring out outfits is by far my favorite pastime. Instead of shopping for something new for my sister’s engagement party this past weekend I shopped my own closet and found an outfit that made me feel beautiful but also comfortable in my new curves.
Some strategies I’ve found for dressing my postpartum body are below.
Black. This is always a go to, but especially now. There is no other color that makes you feel more slim and confident. No matter the season, it’s always chic and in style.
Keep it flowy. In general in the past I’ve always been drawn toward more form fitting clothing, but being pregnant I realized how cute flowy tops, dresses, and jackets looked with my bump. My outfit for the party I had on a skirt and top and layered with a flowy vest to keep things more casual.
Which brings me to – layers. One thing that I’m still carrying is a little postpartum belly. Instead of hiding it, I have embraced my new body. Layering the long vest I wore to the party was the perfect solution. It tied my look together and the belt clinched my waist to accentuate my new curves.
The pieces I styled are a few seasons old, but shop some of my favorites below for similar styles to each piece.
Also – obsessed with the lip stain i wore. Shop it here!
Crescent necklace was my push present. My husband bought it for me from my absolute favorite jewelry store – which just happens to be antique. My engagement ring is from there also! Check them out and similar styles here and here.
